The first blogiversary

Yes indeed, The Core Dump has wasted Internet resources for one full year now. Hooray!

Here are a couple of things I’ve learned from this year:

  • Blogging takes a lot more time than you’d think. Especially if you want to produce any kind of quality. So I don’t.
  • Comment spammers are the spawn of Satan and must be hung up by their nads until dead. Even though it may not actually take that much time per se, having to spend a few minutes every morning to remove their filth from your property accumulates a lot of frustration and rage.
  • Blogging requires honesty–it can be difficult to draw the line on how much information you really want to put out there, and how much you want Google and the Internet Archive to keep forever. But if you censor yourself too much, there really isn’t that much to say. Trite? Sure. But it’s nevertheless a difficult balancing act.
  • Going back over old posts can be very interesting in a navel-gazing sort of way. You think more about some things than you think you do. So blogging can be a good way of seeing yourself.
  • Did I mention that comment spammers are utter evil? Ah, yes, I did.
  • Blogging tools are constantly improving, and having the right tools, such as Ecto for posting and Bloglines for reading, makes the process infinitely more pleasant.

So a toast to another year of silliness! The Core Dump, here’s mud in yer eye.
